Man arrested for Aggravated Assault in Lula, MS

On Monday, September 3, Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department responded to 220 Third Street Lula, MS in reference to an elderly man trapped underneath a vehicle and the suspect involved had fled the scene.

Upon deputies’ arrival, the victim, Mr. Sammie McKinney, was still trapped underneath the vehicle and family members where attempting to pull him out. The suspect, Thomas Roberson, had fled on foot.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Roberson and his wife, Markesha Roberson, where involved in a verbal dispute.  Mrs. Roberson’s boyfriend arrived at the residence, and an argument ensued between Mr. Roberson and the boyfriend.  The argument escalated, and Mr. Roberson was asked to leave the residence but he refused. In a rage, Mr. Roberson put his vehicle into drive and sped forward striking Mr. McKinney and ultimately trapping him underneath his vehicle. Mr. Roberson excited his vehicle and fled on foot.

Thomas Roberson was later apprehended several hours later by Coahoma County Deputies, and charged with aggravated assault. His bond is set at $500,000.

Mr. Sammie McKinney was transported to the MED and is being treated for his injuries.
